BEFORE THE CONSULTATION
BEFORE THE CONSULTATION
In preparation for your pre-op consultation to correct gynecomastia, I recommend you start thinking about when you first noticed this deformity and what kind of distress it is generating in your life.
Surgical intervention might not be the only possible solution to the problem.
THE CONSULTATION
THE CONSULTATION
During our meeting, I will strive to clarify with you the possible causes and determine if and how I can help.
We will discuss what correcting a true gynecomastia ( the increase in volume is due to hypertrophy of the mammary gland) means as opposed to a pseudogynecomastia, or false gynecomastia ( fatty tissue being predominant).
BEFORE THE PROCEDURE
BEFORE THE PROCEDURE
As preparation for this surgery to correct your gynecomastia, you have to undergo some routine blood tests and an electrocardiogram. If recommended, also an ultrasound scan. Being nil by mouth the morning of your surgery will be requested.
THE SURGERY
THE SURGERY
You should know that correcting gynecomastia through surgery can involve a range of quite elaborate surgical approaches that can be combined: liposuction, excision of glandular tissue, more or less extensive and even removal of excess skin sometimes.
Therefore, you could be in the operating room anywhere from 30-40 minutes to 2-3 hours. In most cases, you will be comfortably discharged on the same day. A night stay at times might be necessary though.
AFTER THE PROCEDURE
AFTER THE PROCEDURE
Right from the very start you will have a good idea of the improvement achieved with the gynecomastia correction surgery. Bruises will resolve in 2-3 weeks, while swelling will gradually subside more slowly, over a 4-8 month period.
“Office” type of jobs can be resumed in 3-6 days. More intense sports activities can be resumed from 2-3 weeks to 8 weeks after the surgery, depending on the type of procedure performed and the type of sport.
For 4 weeks, you are asked to wear a compressive garments.
